The Umbrella Company supports our troops

The Umbrella Company proudly supports our troops in Afghanistan and it was nice to see the A Squadron, 9th/12th Royal Lancers putting their Spectrum umbrellas to good use.
They also sent us a very nice letter which humbled us greatly to receive:
It gives us great pleasure to write to you and thank you foryour generous gift to the soldiers of A Squadron, 9th/12th RoyalLancers. We are sorry this has taken some time, but the umbrellas which yousent to our home Garrison needed to be posted out to us in Afghanistan, and nota minute too soon as the temperatures here are reaching the mid-forties at themoment!
As Reconnaissance soldiers, when we are not patrolling on ourfeet, we spend long periods in our vehicles, often in exposed over-watchlocations. I have enclosed some photos of how your umbrellas are being put togood use often giving us the only shade from the brutal sun for miles around.Our metal vehicles do not have air conditioning and in the mid-day sun become toohot to touch without gloves on. On top of all this we have to wear body armourand helmets and force feed ourselves at least ten litres of warm water a day!
You may know that we are a small Regiment who recruit mainlyfrom around Leicestershire and Derbyshire, but have many soldiers from all overthe country. When it comes to media and sponsor interest we can often beovershadowed which makes your support all the more special to us. It is fair tosay that your umbrellas are the envy of many, for aesthetic as well aspractical reasons, and we flaunt them shamelessly!
Your contributionreally does make a difference to our soldiers doing an uncomfortable job indifficult conditions on a daily basis. We are extremely grateful to you forthis.
